We got into town early and went to the Duomo first around 9:30. We saw the Basilica which was built in the 1300’s. Then we went to the crypt. It actually is not a crypt but was thought to be a crypt that has been written about in the past. It had been filled in and covered for over 600 years before it was found in the 1900’s and excavated. Due to the rooms being filled in and covered, the paintings on the walls had not had much deterioration. As they dug deeper, they found that this was the original church and before that, the grain storage room for a castle. It dates back to the 700’s for the castle.
