After seeing the Basilica, the crypt and the museum, we finally visited the inside of the Duomo. This took 2 hours to see and listen to audio. It is covered with marble sculptures, marble floors and paintings on the walls, created by the masters. At one point the Church was to be expanded into the “New Duomo” but it was never finished. The church still has the city decrees proclaiming that it had dedicated itself to the Virgin Mary for protection from the Plague. The town rededicated itself to The Virgin again in 1944 during the war. The next day the town was bombed. I guess Mary was not impressed.
