We walked around what had been the Emperor’s Palace (it was huge!) and looked down on the Circus Maximus where they had the chariot races (it held 300,000 people!) Of course, nothing is left now but the track, but that is unbelievable! When we left we saw another street that went uphill that Cindy just had to take- turns out it dead-ended at a tiny Church (not worth the climb)- oh well. We made our way back to Piazza Spagna around 7:30pm and found a small restaurant and had dinner. At first we were sitting on the street next to women who were chain smoking and cars passing within inches of us so we asked to be moved inside and it was then great. Cindy and Norm had cheese fondue which tasted wonderful and Jeanine had eggplant parmegiana. We talked to the owner during dinner- he was very nice. After dinner we walked back to Spagna and ate gelato on the Spanish Steps. It was a very fun day. We went back to Flaminio station and a train was there so we jumped right on! Great day.
