After lunch, we walked along the ramparts of the old portion of the El Jadida, Cite Portugese. In those days, it was called Mazagan, founded in 1513 and was named El Jadida (The New) in the 19th century. We saw the Citerne Portuguese that had been lost for centuries. It was a subterranean, vaulted cistern water collection facility. It was used in the Orson Wells movie “Othello” for the famous riot scene, so we read.
