We decided to take a different route back to our hotel, driving through Mochos. On the way there was a donkey on the side of the road and as Cindy pulled over to take its picture, the donkey decided to come over to the car and be friendly. Looking in the rear view mirror, we noticed an older woman who had been collecting the grasses along the roadside walked up to move her donkey. She only spoke Greek, but allowed us to photograph her animal, but she hid behind from view. Even when Cindy pointed to her and asked for a photo, she just smiled, but then hid from the camera. Driving through Mochos was an experience as there was a pile of gravel blocking what appeared to be the main exit through town. As Cindy began to back up, the men on the side of the road told us to continue and turn right. We barely made the turn onto a most narrow road, at the end we were told to turn left. Then we had to turn down a street going downhill steeply, so with it being difficult to see, Cindy slowly maneuvered the small vehicle. Stopping to take a photo in the middle of this road, we heard the sound of another car, so continued. We were not sure if we continued the correct way, but the other car followed as if we did. Finally a sign to our destination. Then the view of the entire bay and plain of Malia from the top and north side of the mountain was incomparable. No photo opportunities on this road, so just in our memory banks.
