In the afternoon we took a bus to Arles just to the south. The town is in the middle of a huge festival for the weekend. There were people everywhere with bands playing in the streets. There are so many bands, it sounds like the battle of the bands. The town has first century Roman Coliseum which is still used today and was having a bullfight at 5pm. Yes that’s right. We are not in Spain but they still fight bulls in France once in a while (6 times per year.) The rest of the time they just try to take a ribbon off the horns of the bull but never kill the bull. The advertisement posters showed the bulls and not the matadors. After the bullfight, 30 bulls were to be released to run the streets of the city. We saw the barriers being erected. Unfortunately, we had to leave for the ship at 5pm and could not see the bulls. Instead, we met the ship. We had a nice surprise this evening. We were able to sail on the ship and we went to see the Avignon Bridge which is only 50% intact but is still lit up a night. What a pretty sight.
