In Safed, where the population is primarily Orthodox Jews, we visited the Sephardic synagogue Abuhav. This is a small synagogue with a dome center and paintings on the walls. There was much Islamic influence with the architecture and colors of the synagogue. We were kept to the side as the curator/janitor told us he had just mopped the floor for the Sabbath and was concerned we would mess it up. We proved him wrong!
