We landed on Aticho Island and saw 14,000 pairs of penguins. We saw Gentoo and Chinstrap penguins. They were everywhere. There was so much Penguin poo that they have a tool to clean your boots that they call the “Guanomatic”. Aticho Island is in the northern part of the English Strait between Greenwich and Robert Islands. The islands were first charted in 1935 by Discovery Investigations.
The captain held a contest to win a bottle of Champaign if we were the first to spot a large iceberg. Two people spotted one while most of us were at a lecture on wildlife and birds of the area. They cheated!
