Wake up call for 5am as must catch the group’s bus for the airport. We had a chartered flight to Ushuaia and arrived at noon. Our luggage was taken directly to our ship, the Explorer II, for our Antarctica journey. We were bused to a ranch for a traditional Patagonia barbeque and Gaucho dance. After, we had a tour of the National Park Tierra del Fuego. The scenery was outstanding and we had several stops to walk around the lovely terrain. At this point everyone was getting very excited to get to the ship. After the muster drill, introduction of the Expedition staff, we were off to a lovely dinner as we sailed east down the Beagle Channel. The most amazing rainbow appeared as we began sailing. The colors were the most vibrant that we have ever seen in a rainbow. Of course, we learned our lesson to always have the camera with us at all times. As if the day had not been long enough, we strolled to the promenade deck and had a quick walk around as the sunset was brilliant. We found the piano bar and the lounge with the quartet. Only one other couple was there. When they began to dance, Cindy talked Norm into a couple. It was funny to observe the band members chuckling at Norm’s 2 left feet. As if we had not had enough to eat, snacks were being served. Now off to the Drake Passage. We both took motion sickness pills, just in case.
